i think its lazy writing. magnar is probably hacking the future fighting event that MC can sign up for (instead of playing guitar with jill), and probably rigging the placements (who fights who) and DPC just reused the coding for brawler mini game to make magnars laptop screen look nerdy and revelant
You can also implicitly admit there is alcohol and multiple characters have mentioned the faculty know all the partying with alcohol is going on but basically allow it as long as nobody does anything to get the press or cops involved.
