I’ve had the Push 3 for a couple of weeks now and I freaking love it! BTW: there is an easy way to stay in the current samples folder when setting up your drum rack: just duplicate a pad and then hot swap the sample of the duplicated pad. That way you stay in the same folder as the sample that’s currently on the pad. Great video as always, by the way!
Duuude!! You absolutely killed it with this video, every element. Love the workflow, love the jams. I’ve had my push 3 for a bit over a month now and it’s definitely taking over my musical world. Definitely needs some features added but it’s a pretty impressive entry into the DAWless world
Bro this is the vibe-iest video ever! Such a phenomenal, chill, informative, authentic and down to earth review and real life walkthrough of push 3.. Beautiful music, beautiful footage, edit pace, and even colour grade.. Really really nicely done dude! I have full faith that Ableton was super proud of this outcome.. Stunning work!
Oh man… using Push as a live interface/fx processor sounds like an absolutely mad idea. I’ve been building a guitar pedal board with looping, fx, vocal fx and synth. This theoretically could do it all!
I've been starting to work out some songs in Live with stock & M4L devices and the possibilities for guitar are absolutely mad just looking at the space effects and textures alone. Getting this level of depth and flexibility would be impossible with pedals. One big issue I'm running into is live pitch shifting for vocal pads and vocal harmonies, which my Boss VE-500 does quite well - it even accepts external midi so you can live play your pitch shifted harmonies. I'm not finding any real-time pitch shifting devices - only delays. (PitchLoop89, Pitch Hack) They accept automation/midi for semitone pitch offset, which is okay for some situations but not as intuitive by far as sending straight midi pitches. In practice this would mean I'd still have to bring my VE-500. Any suggestions for real-time pitch shifting if you have them would be greatly appreciated!
So inspiring, dude. I’ve been trying to decide on Push 3 vs an Akai product…this is leaning me heavily towards Push 3. Appreciate your insight and talent!
I just wrote the same question. Which one did you go with. I know the AKAI is way cheaper, but regardless of price wondering which one is better just to have overall to produce on the go. I sometimes hate being inside my house and want to be mobile. You know what i mean. Cheers.
Been watching a whole bunch of push 3 videos in anticipation for when mine arrives in a few days. This vid has me excited more than any other! Super nice tracks you’ve made! Very inspiring!
Taetro I always love your vids, this one however is on a whole new level stylistically...wow beautiful to watch and the tunes to match. Thanks for the effort.
great video man! i've had an MPC Live 2 for about 3 years now and I love it, but the flexibility and possibilities of the standalone Push 3 are making me think about switching over...Having 4 times the amount of pads opens up a world of possibilities.
Jooo this is such a nicely produced video, the song is also really beautiful! thank you very much for all of your efforts for the community. Hope you are well
Wow, the extremely high production value of this video. Great job of showcasing Push 3 features and areas that need improvement. I’ve been on the fence about this device. A lot of good and bad reviews on YT. IMO the short comings can be addressed in firmware updates. Ableton offers 30 day returns..I’m going to order one.👍🏿
Honestly ableton really thinks about the end user always. They’ve done an amazing job on this push series throughout the years. I’m very proud to be an ableton user came from logic back in 2010
I dig the music quite a bit! That said, I’m surprised nobody else is having issues with visibility in this video. This low contrast filter and somewhat distant angle of the camera is making it a bit challenging to see what’s happening on the screen.
I've already grown pretty comfortable editing the majority of my midi with Push 2 and not even using mouse or keyboard. It actually keeps me in the zone when I do that. I edit mostly using the step sequencer and nudge/adjust what I need. This jog wheel would be really useful. I actually prefer not having a touch screen. Great video, man. I've just been watching it unfold, but it's looking like Push 3 is gonna join my collection some day.
thank you remy! I think the Push 3 for editing midi is a huge improvement (selecting notes, scrolling through them etc) If you got proficient at it with Push 2 - you'll for sure be super speedy on push 3. thank you for watching the video!
Do you think your creativity flourishes more on the push 3 or ableton on a laptop? I’m considering trying out the push 3. Beautiful sounds btw. The ambience is wonderful
Fantastic vid ... as expected 👏 My Push 3 is on back order as I could not decide if to upgrade from Push 2. I'm a complete noob when it comes music production but these videos are so inspirational..... thanks for another super video Taetro !! 4 weeks to go !!
I have also a push 3 but do not know anything about making music, i made some musical things. Now i am complete confused, should i release it anyway when i am happy with it or let it review by a more experienced person. But as i say, I am not know anything about making music and it works so well with the push 3.

I have been using my launchpad and ableton for years, but the new push 3 makes me wonder if I need a new controller. I am just not sure, if I would still be using my mouse most of the time.
Hey, excellent video! I was wondering, and sorry if this is an obvious question, but how do you think about playing notes on the Push? Are you setting it up in the In Key mode, or you just know which notes to play naturally? I always have a hard time of intuitively playing the notes I want to on the Push, and end up playing some off-sounding notes before I figure out which of the notes sounds good in the context of the song. Do you have any advice on how to approach getting better at intuitively playing notes and chords? Thanks!!!
I've been using push since version 1 and other grid instruments like launchpads as well. the default note layout is in-key, and by 4ths. I find this to be really ergonomic, and it's quite easy to play triads in a triangle formation. easy to see the 7th's from there too. Like any instrument, it takes practice to learn. I'd approach it like a traditional instrument, and practice some scales or melodies on the push. You'll get more proficient over time!
Do you think its better to get the push 3 to be mobile or that little mini midi AKIA MPK ? Clearly there is a price gap, but wondering which one is actually necessary. Thank you
Great vid. I am disappointed with akai forces inability to allow different tempo/time signature per scene launch row. Question: Can push3 standalone do it? On force you have to wait for loading times between songs in projects, audience are not happy having to wait with silence.
This may seem like an odd question but how easy is this thing to use? I have a Native Instruments Maschine Micro MK 3 and it has a pretty steep learning curve. I hope this is less stressful?
Anything worth doing will have some level of challenge. Instead of approaching your quest to learn music in a stressful manner, looking for an “easy” way…approach it as a lifelong challenge that you can continue to get better and better at. Looking for the easy way is actually the hardest way
I feel nervous about buying the Push 3 because it sounds like the chip inside has been discontinued, so if I have a problem I’ll just have to throw it away. Is this rumor about the chips correct?
That push 3 is sick man love the music you made with as well wish there was a way i could get some your music for some video music socores i be doing but any way good music and good product
Thanks Taetro for demonstrating the Push 3... the ability to use Push 3 as a guitar amplifier landed here... I will be looking at reviews of the guitar sound and maybe make a move.
Yes! In your research you can look at Ableton’s Amp, Cab, and Pedal devices. You may even be able to try processing your guitar through them via a computer before taking the plunge on push 3. Ableton has a free trial on their site

Noob question about non standalone Push 3: Do i need an audio interface with midi to sequence external gear? Or just a computer, push 3, and the external gear?
Great video! I need to get a case for travel as well. Any suggestions? Loving the push 3. I have it in standalone. Got my favorites folder set up which is super handy. Been having issues with midi dropping but using a workaround in the meantime. Pads are butta smooth.
@@Taetro when switching tracks the midi doesn’t initially work. I have to click the clip view and go back to note mode for midi to work. Midi only works initially when I select tracks via an external controller via usb or if I add a new midi track. It’s kind of a pain to the workflow.

Absolutely love my Push 3. Try the Opal drum synth, or the Kit by Fors, you won’t be disappointed! Max for Live devices are the way forward to me on this, feels very modular.
Interesting to see how Ableton is slowly catching up with Maschine+ with this device. Twice the price however, no USB support for audio interfaces and no ability to arrange songs. Oh, and you have to spend a bag of money to get the DAW software. Interesting device, a great help for existing Ableton users who can afford it , but apart from the MPE, it’s not even close to the Maschine+
I love my Push 2 but I'll bet that the reality of the Push 3 is that you couldn't read anything on the screen while you were using it out in the open. Screens on pro audio gear, even the mobile ones, are notoriously lackluster when it comes to brightness and contrast. I have an MPC Live 2 because there wasn't a Push 3 at the time and even on that device I have to use the cover of a hardcase to protect it from too much daylight when I am using it outside.
@@Taetro I watched it fully but your points on visibility were almost exclusively on the pads. No mention of what it is to read the Push 3 screen in direct sunlight.
i stated that at basically no point was I unable to read the screen which is impressive - but only the pads became difficult to see in direct sunlight which of course is probably more important.
@@Taetro @Taetro I agree with you that this is impressive but even if you mentioned it (which I didn't pick up) you definitely could have done a better job of demonstrating it. Especially when you are getting paid to do this (which substantially reduces the believability of this video but you already knew that).
What is well hidden in the, obviously nice made video, congrats to that, is that the standalone version completly misses the Arrangement part to simply make a complete Song with the standalone.. it´s great for sketching but you still need the computer. It would have been the thing to make it shine as a real standalone, and then worth the heavy heavy price.
I hope they’ll add more arrangement capabilities in the future. I’m getting along fine using it with session mode then transferring to my computer. For me it’s a great workflow. You are actually able to record into arrangement in standalone using shift+record. nothing hidden in this video, just a look at my experience and use.
@@Taetro thanks for your answer, as it´s a sonspored video it always lacks of real world use return. One usb port.. no sdcard slot when you are on the go.. slow cpu.. why why ableton. You show what is doable with it, that´s already really nice but somehow it feels not what it could have been.
If you choose to constantly view the world from a scarcity mindset, it just leads to misery. I choose to show what can be done because, that’s how I approach life. Nothing to do with a sponsor.
@@Taetro Good you feel free and show us how you feel about it. A piano with zero LFO can bring so much joy if you enjoy playing it. I agree it is about enjoying things. But this toy is so expensive that you think twice when you pay for the standalone the full price, I want to know what it cannot do so I can decide what it is, without jumping on the hype train. Thanks again for your video.
@taetro can you use the jamstik as an MPE controller in push standalone or does it not work due to the software being required? Considering selling the Jamstik to help fund the push 3 but might keep it if you can use it as a controller in standalone, as that would be ace for live performance
Does the gear define the genera? I sometimes wonder if technology hasn't always defined what we perceive as music. From the earliest instruments to our present-day marvels. I wonder to what extent we are hamstrung by the technology. For all the promises of Live and Push, it can make you lazy, trapped in the loop. Caught, stunned, stunted never really evolving.
@@Taetro Im not saying great music isn't out there to be found, anymore than i saying there aren't great musicians out there. There will always be great musicians. What am saying is that technology these days makes it too easy to dial in a sound or a production archetype, its too easy to stay within those limits. The innovators aren't controlled by their controls, they'll find ways to express what they first conceived as an effort of mind and will, and not as fluke and chance. I'm sure there are real artists out there, but they exist in spite of , not because of our systems of rewards.
i agree this exist in spite of the reward system of social media and the music industry - but many great artists exist as a result of the access to high quality production and tools (technology) so not in spite of technology certainly which is what I thought was your initial point. we have to look at how we value these artists and support them so they can sustain careers.
in direct bright sunlight the pads will be difficult to see, but I noted that in each of the situations here. Only in the fully outdoor situations was it a problem.
I think the Push 3 is overpriced. In EU, the controller version is 950Eur, the standalone is 1900Eur. That is 950 more! For this money you can buy a pretty decent laptop with i7 processor, OLED display and 32GB RAM. That for me is a way more flexible setup, you can use 3rd party plugins in Ableton and use the laptop for 1000 other things. Portability? Mah, I would rather enjoy my roadtrip, watching the attractions...
Love the vid and music. Beautiful scenery! The ability to bend seriously has be debating this as my next purchase. Can this support a portable battery pack?
@Taetro Sorry, I don't have any sources. I just tried it because I was curious and it worked on first try! I used a PD certified cable, though. Edit: And the power bank also needs to be PD certified of course. I also tried it with a USB C power adapter and that worked as well.
you went from a stereo output (the lemondrop) to a balanced mono input on the push which would have given you some phase issues on that mono input. you should have used a 1/8" mini stereo y cable that went to two unbalanced 1/4" ts.
@@Taetro totally understand but just be careful since you went stereo out into a balanced input. a balanced input takes one of the signals it expects to be 90 degrees out of phase...when it's actually a second channel of a stereo output you'll run into phase cancelation
at home on my desk it's usually plugged in and charging! but since it's a battery powered unit I definitely wanted to put it through its paces for this video :)
no doubt a great app. So much is possible now on a budget and on mobile devices. I don't want people to have FOMO for expensive gear like this, there's so many ways to make music.
Hey bro, I'm from India. Wanna start distribution with Routenote(free plan). Is Routenote reliable in terms of royalties/streams and customer support. Please help. Wanna know how trustable they are in 2023. Would you suggest anything else...
I have used Distrokid as long as ive been releasing music so that would be my recommendation. Also ideally there should be no need for customer support with your distributor - usually people blame their distributor for mistakes they've made, or issues that have to do with specific platforms. Your earnings will be relatively the same at each distributor (idk what these free models take, but probably more than paid) and to look at it realistically, if you're just starting out, the revenue isn't going to be anything meaningful until you build an audience. so my advice is, just pick a distributor with good reviews, and that people (artists you've heard of) actually use, and get some music out there

wow! Glad to see it traveled well, looking forward to mine arriving... B - )
it for sure did. Hope you enjoy!
Absolutely love my Push 3. Try the Opal drum synth, or the Kit by Fors, you won’t be disappointed! Max for Live devices are the way forward to me on this, feels very modular.
I'll check it out!! Yes M4L will be huge for Push 3 as well as custom racks + instruments with native ableton stuff
Except it works with far less glitching than Maschine +, so it’s better.
I love my Push 2 but I'll bet that the reality of the Push 3 is that you couldn't read anything on the screen while you were using it out in the open. Screens on pro audio gear, even the mobile ones, are notoriously lackluster when it comes to brightness and contrast. I have an MPC Live 2 because there wasn't a Push 3 at the time and even on that device I have to use the cover of a hardcase to protect it from too much daylight when I am using it outside.
i speak on all these points in the video, consider watching before commenting.
Ok boss anything else?
Love the video. Silly question. What’s the little rode unit in the setup?
Which headphone splitter you like using for your rode wireless coming out of your push 3?
I actually have no idea, just a random one from amazon I think. Had it for years.
It's a real shame you didn't do an above view for all of us who are still learning and could follow ya.great video geeeza
Push looks great.
I thought I also saw a MPC series your did recently? Was that on this channel or elsewhere?
That is available through ADSR
I will have to experiment with this!!!! I'm not sure
Caught, stunned, stunted never really evolving.
if you think music hasn’t evolved and great music hasn’t been made with new technology over recent decades, you simply haven’t been paying attention.
I see when light is shining on the pads you can’t really see them due to that mpe layer
in direct bright sunlight the pads will be difficult to see, but I noted that in each of the situations here. Only in the fully outdoor situations was it a problem.
Great video! One question.. How is the latency when singing into Push? Thank you so much!!
buffer size is down to 128 so there's no perceivable latency. same as running Live on a computer at the same buffer size!
Awesom video and workflow, many thanks. Which Blankforms sound pack is the melodic sample from?
his latest pack! blankforms.gumroad.com/l/blur2samplepack?layout=profile
Really great video and overview. What is that bag/case you were using for the push at the start?
that is simply the box it came in!
Push 3 is no difference from push 2 right?
They look the same!
Stand-alone
At 11:11 it says Dong really big on the screen.
hehehehhe
Yes it does. You can power it over USB C. But you need a PD (Power Delivery) compatible power bank and a PD compatible USB C cable.
@@the_real_iceman thanks!
Do you have a link to any resources on that? I didn’t think USB power was possible
@Taetro Sorry, I don't have any sources. I just tried it because I was curious and it worked on first try! I used a PD certified cable, though. Edit: And the power bank also needs to be PD certified of course. I also tried it with a USB C power adapter and that worked as well.
Does it charge the battery or only supply power? Also what is PD?
Vibes
you went from a stereo output (the lemondrop) to a balanced mono input on the push which would have given you some phase issues on that mono input. you should have used a 1/8" mini stereo y cable that went to two unbalanced 1/4" ts.
I used the cable I had with me at the time. Also some segments of this vid were captured in mono because of video recording purposes
@@Taetro totally understand but just be careful since you went stereo out into a balanced input. a balanced input takes one of the signals it expects to be 90 degrees out of phase...when it's actually a second channel of a stereo output you'll run into phase cancelation
I definitely need to add one of these cables to my kit. I didn't even think I'd end up sampling the lemon drop in! thank you for watching :)
@@Taetro cheers and thanks for the video! enjoyed it and definitely jealous of you being on the road like that:)
why not just have the dc power plugged in......
at home on my desk it's usually plugged in and charging!
but since it's a battery powered unit I definitely wanted to put it through its paces for this video :)
I wait a push mini, this is escesive big
check out ableton move
Great demo. I’ll stick to Koala until I can afford one :)
no doubt a great app. So much is possible now on a budget and on mobile devices. I don't want people to have FOMO for expensive gear like this, there's so many ways to make music.
@@Taetro Thanks for your reply! Love your channel. Always high quality content and chilled out vibe.
Wow, you are a so cool Dude! I sell one! Greats from Germany
thanks toby!
I am between paying my Rent or buying it and be homeless, but be a cool ass homeless dude under a bridge making sick beats

I need a job bruh
you got this.
